Meet the Supurrstars of meowfest 2019
Earlier this year, meowfest posted a call-out for rising “supurrstars” to share their passion with the cat world. Singers, dancers, comedians, speakers and personalities from all walks of life were welcomed to apply, the only requirement being that they could, in some way, connect with a room of cat lovers.
After months of reviewing applications, the meowfest team (with the help of our cats) has finally selected meowfest 2019's official supurrstars.
You may have seen these up-and-coming cat celebrities on social media or even on TV, but this summer, you can meet them in-cat. Maybe if you're lucky, you can even grab a pawtograph!
No need to purchase special tickets to attend the supurrstar spotlights: you can enjoy these acts for free with just a General Admission pass.
Mister Puffles
Before Puffles was rescued by famed animal advocate Beth Stern, he spent over five years locked in a basement, severely neglected by his then-owners. Thanks to the unwavering love and care of Beth and some talented veterinarians, he gradually regained his trust towards humans. Out of the thousands of adoption applications for Puffles that poured in, Beth selected Christina to be his forever mom.
The new companionship could not have come at a better time: not long after she adopted the ten-year-old Persian, Christina was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease that targets the central nervous system. “We are exactly what each other needs and I’m not quite sure who saved who,” Christina says.
Through Puffles’s platform, she is working to raise awareness about senior and special needs cats, which are often overlooked by potential adopters. You can learn more about the duo’s inspiring mission at their meowfest meet-and-greet.
Merlin Ragdoll
As demonstrated by Grumpy Cat, social media can’t get enough of cantankerous-looking felines. You’ve probably seen Merlin in memes all over the internet, all-too-accurately capturing how we feel about Mondays, mornings, people who stand on the wrong side of escalators...you name it. With over 220,000 followers on Instagram and an upcoming appearance on CityTV Toronto’s Breakfast Television, Merlin is paving his own path to fame.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet this cranky-faced Canadian cutie and Mister Puffles at their meet-and-greets. You can find the times on the meowfest schedule here.
