Call it fate, call it chance, or call it pure meowfest magic: out of all the memorable moments from meowfest 2022, the story of YVR Cookie and Cookie the kitten has to be one of the sweetest!
As soon as Monique Lisek, founder of YVR Cookie, finished setting up her booth on Saturday morning, she ran inside to get a first look at Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS)’s adoptable kittens.
“I was immediately drawn to a little grey kitten who was super calm compared to the others,” Monique said. “I asked about her but they didn't know her name yet and they would come to grab me once the coordinator was in.”
Later in the day, she couldn’t believe it when LAPS’s coordinator came by her booth and told her the little grey kitten’s name: Cookie!
“I took that as my sign and I knew she was the little girl for us! We picked her up the next day from LAPS and brought her home. She didn't stop purring the entire drive home.”
When we asked Monique how Cookie is settling into her new home, she said: “Over the past week, she's really shown her personality! Her favourite toy is unfortunately her litter box. Next to that, she loves cuddling up on your chest, playing with golf balls and giving lots of kisses!”
When it comes to introducing Cookie to her new brother, a one-year-old rescue named Burger, it seems Monique has nothing to worry about: “Burger is absolutely obsessed and wants to be let into her room 24/7,” she said. “We’re keeping them separate when we can't supervise as she just had surgery! But when they are together, Burger is so gentle and loves watching her play.”
Thanks to LAPS, the process of adopting Cookie couldn’t have been more purrfect. “It was so refreshing to see how much everyone at LAPS genuinely care and love what they do,” Monique said.
We hope many more happily ever afters happen for shelter cats at future meowfests! Endless purrs of gratitude to those who supported our 2022 event, helping unite kitties like Cookie with their forever families.
